Kringilsarrani

Kringilsárrani was protected in 1975, and the protection was revised in 2003. This area is important grazing grounds for reindeer, a unique and vegetated parcel of land that’s bounded by Brúarjökull’s retreat. Glacial relics are clearly visible here, and so-called casts lie across the parcel. The plant population is unique, for example peculiar clusters of gilled mushrooms are found there.

Kringilsárrani is managed by  Vatnajökull National Park, and surveillance and other operations are handled by their staff.

The nature reserve covers an area of 6,372.3 ha.
