Trollaborn, Lækjarbotnar

Tröllabörn was protected as a natural monument in 1983. The natural monument is characterized by peculiar hornitos, which have been used as shelter for sheep and even humans. When the volcanic fumes exit the lava openings, they burn at a high temperature when they combine with the oxygen in the air. This results in small but steep cones forming from spatter that the fumes hurtle along with them. These cones, or hornitos, are most common on shield volcanoes.

The natural monument covers an area of 4.7 ha.
